If you’re trying to negotiate an early retirement package, start out by asking for a little more than you’re willing to take. Negotiation means a back and forth; your employer will offer you something less in return, then you come down again, then they go up a little, until you reach a number you can both agree on. Make sure your real take amount is within reason, though. Research this before you start negotiating by asking as many people as possible what they think a good early retirement package is and if they know what others got as offers.
