Work on Unfinished Hardwood

I am sure that there are advantages to installing different types of wood and I would like to know what they are, along with the disadvantages before I commit to a particular flooring product in my home. I also thought that I would try to do this project myself and I wonder how much more additional work is required if I were to try to install unfinished hardwood flooring in my house. I am sure that the product will require a lot of additional work and if that is the case, is it worth it to get the desired look that I want in my home?
